iPod does not turn on/charge

The iPod does not turn on or show any signs of life, even after being plugged into a charger for hours. I have tried hard resetting (holding home+power), but it still doesn’t do anything. It doesn’t show up on my computer when I connect it, either. The iPod does not heat up at all when plugged in.
