iPhone 6 Plus Screen Problem

Hello,

My iPhone 6 Plus screen is acting weird. It flickers at the top and the touch becomes unresponsive. I have to warp the phone at the top for the touch to work.

If left unlocked, the phone does its own thing. It has sent messages to random people.

The phone is in a very good condition for its age. It has always been in a case, maybe dropped twice or thrice in its lifetime.

I have videos that show the problem, but the website doesn’t have a feature to upload videos.

Thank you.

I’m not sure what Cris Stables is doing but here’s some information from someone that has worked on this difficulty. The reason you have to wrap your phone in some way to get the digitizer to respond is because of a loose connection in the ribbon that goes from the logic board to the screen. Once the ribbon comes loose from the digitizer it’s all downhill from there. You will eventually lose all touch capability and then the device is rendered temporarily useless. This is common for the iPhone 6 and 6Plus and is listed as a manufactures defect. My suggestion is to buy a new (complete) LCD and Digitizer replacement. These have to be carefully replaced and it can be very easy to damage the replacement part while installing it. So watch this You-Tube video specifically of this so you know what to do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3KzmCwu...

You can find a replacement on Ebay here, https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-iPhone-6s-P...

Why would you tell him to spend money on something that has nothing to do with what is causing the problem?

But that is the problem! Take some advice here Cris. I've worked on many iphone 6 and 6-plus. This is a common difficulty where the ribbon comes loose from the digitizer. Your suggestion is to spend $70 at a repair shop. Well !&&* send it to me and I'll surely fix it for twenty bucks. Guaranteed!

This is a signature fault on the iPhone 6 plus. It is known as touch disease and requires the touch IC to be removed and a small jumper wire soldered. This is why you have to warp your phone as the trace and pad under the IC has lifted.

How many people have the capability to do micro-soldering? Replacing the digitizer would be less frustrating.

@CASPER YOUNG There are a lot of phone repair shops that offer microsoldering. The touch problem on the 6 plus usually costs around $70. A new screen will not fix your problem.

- de

That's BS! Take it from someone that knows better I replace screens quite often. It's 14 dollars for a replacement.

@CASPER YOUNG This is a 6 plus we are talking about

So. They are both (the iPhone 6 and 6-Plus) built similarly and even take the same replacement screen. The diagnostic is that he has to wrap the phone and put pressure on a certain area to get the digitizer to function. That says the digitizer is the issue because doing the same cannot put pressure on the components that would lead to the diagnosis of the touchscreen disease you mentioned.

I had this problem and a new screen didn’t fix it. I was told by a repair shop that it had touch disease and to permanently fix the problem it would require micro soldering.

The iPhone 6 series are difficult for many reasons and have had many recalls over the last year.

The Multi-Touch Repair Program for iPhone 6 Plus repaired iPhones sent in with screen difficulties for about $150. Cris Stables put up a post suggesting the phone be taken to a repair shop and have it fixed for about $70. Funny thing is that I bought my iPhone 6-Plus for about $70 on Ebay.

I believe you are jumping the gun on your assessment and I'll tell you why. The creator of the post stated that he wrapped the top part of the phone to get it to function. Well guess where the ribbon for the difgitizer is. And then ask where the components that are responsible for touch screen disease are, (those are off to the side) and they are covered. The device was opened and the battery was replaced. An issue with the screen comes up and pressure is placed at the top, (not the side) to get the screen to function. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see where this leads to.

@CASPER YOUNG Thanks for the advice but the shop that tried a replacement screen have been in business for a long time and are professionals.
