Hi @esky ,

Here’s the hardware maintenance manual for the Tab 3 8 Plus TB-8703F and 8703X models so perhaps the 8703R model will be the same, as I couldn’t find the manual for it. This will help gain access to the systemboard in the tablet. Be patient as it takes a little while to load the manual onto the page

It is hard to see it in the manual and also the parts list for the other two models does not show the micro USB port as being on a separate module, so presumably it is mounted onto the systemboard.

Perhaps searching places such as this for a compatible replacement will yield results. Check the data sheet to make sure that the connector’s mounting “lugs” - as opposed to the data/power pin connections, are in the same position as this can vary.

If the micro USB connector is mounted on the systemboard you will need smd soldering tools and skills to do the repair. Check on YouTube for videos on how to do this if you’re not sure. Apologies if you already know how to do this.

Hopefully this is of some help.

thanks @jayeff - both those links you send do not work for me - only the lenovo partslist

I have removed the case off the tablet - the usb is definitely mounted on the systemboard.

I have old skool soldering skills but its been a while and not SM skills - if you have a good youtube video to share?

your right - i will need to remove the system board out to see how the usb connector is mounted to the board to get a replacement.

thx

@esky

Strange that the links don't work as I have no problems when I click on them.

Here's the manual link - https://manualzz.com/doc/26908513/lenovo... and the part supplier's link https://www.digikey.com.au/en/product-hi...

The parts supplier was Digikey.com or you could also try mouser.com and look for female micro USB connectors.

With the cable I'm also not sure if it has a latch that is just flipped up from the cable side or whether if the cable has a plastic tab on it that it may just pull straight out. Try the latch option first just in case. A hinging arrangement on either side should be noticeable if there is a latch.

I'll get back later about the smd soldering video but just search on YouTube as most smd soldering is the same, look for charge port replacement or similar

thanks .. much appreciated.
