Laptop shut off and will not power on

Hello, my Asus x550za suddenly shut off and will not turn on. No power, no lights. I've verified 19 volts coming through the AC adapter, power jack and power jack port. I noticed that one side of the CMOS battery holder came unsoldered from the motherboard and is hanging. Could this have caused the laptop to suddenly turn off and to not be able to power on?

Hi,

Did you try resoldering the CMOS battery connector back on and then reinserting the CMOS battery and check what happens, you didn't say?

Don’t forget to disconnect the main battery when working in a laptop. Even when turned off there is still power available at various points on the motherboard and you don’t want to slip when using tools as this could cause electrical problems in the motherboard. The Power button is not a power isolating button.

The CMOS battery maintains the BIOS settings, when the laptop is switched off, so if there is no power to hold the settings they may have become corrupted which could prevent the laptop from operating correctly.

When you have repaired the battery holder and are satisfied that all is well, leave the main battery disconnected and press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and release before inserting the CMOS battery.

After that connect the charger and try to start the laptop. Leave the main battery disconnected at this stage. If it starts allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop, allow the HDD activity to settle down i.e. wait about 5 minutes and then shut down the laptop in the normal manner.

When it has completely shut down, disconnect the charger and reconnect the main battery. Then reconnect the charger and try to turn on the laptop. If it starts allow it to boot all the way to the Windows desktop, allow the HDD activity to settle down i.e. wait about 5 minutes and then check the charge status of the battery. If it is charging allow it to fully charge before disconnecting the charger.

I've never actually soldered anything at all and am hesitant to attempt to on a motherboard and risk damaging it. Currently looking for someone who can do that quickly for me. I'm hoping it will work as the connecting pins in the battery holder are intact, the old solder simply came clean off the motherboard.
