Old and New (iFixit) Battery Not Detected!

So I’ve had an issue with my system detecting its battery for almost a year now. It still manages to power up and run while plugged in.

The MagSafe charger will turn Orange but there is no charging happening. Took it to Apple last year and they said the battery was dead and needed replaced. Decided to hold off on the repair until recently.

Thought I’d give it a go myself with the iFixit kit. Everything went well and made the replacement, however like before the battery still is not being detected. Which has been confirmed with running the diagnostics and it came back immediately with the diagnostic error: PPT001

Also to add my MagSafe Charger wire has become exposed, so not sure if that’s causing any issues. I’ve also attempted the SMC and PRAM reset many times with no help.

It might be wishful thinking, but could it be a faulty replacement battery? The MagSafe charger needs replaced? Or more likely the logic board?

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

Lets get a better view of things. Install this gem of an app: CoconutBattery with the charger connected take a snapshot of the apps main window as well as the battery info pane and post it here for us to see Agregar imágenes a una pregunta existente

You do need to get a new MagSafe charger as its possible it damaged things. Do make sure you get a REAL Apple unit directly from Apple. None of the Amazon or eBay sold units are real they are all fakes now as Apple has stopped patrolling for clone units getting them pulled.

@danj Thanks for the reply! I've added the screenshots of CoconutBattery. I'm afraid it doesn't really show much information.

Also, good to know about the charger! I'll make sure to order one from the Apple store.

Both batteries show the same under CoconutBattery?

@danj I would need to open up and reconnect the old battery to test it again. From what I remember I believe it was the same

Well, this is not good at all!

At this point if both batteries are not showing any data, either you have two bad batteries or SMC logic has problems. I would pull the logic board out and make a detailed inspection of the other side as thats where the SMC logic is located.

I have the same issue with 2 of iFixits replacement batteries for this model.
Boths are not recognized after 6 and 9 months of use.

The logic board is NOT the problem. It worked fine with the original (8 year old) battery and can still detect it.
But both the iFixit batteries are not recognized at all.

Either, iFixit needs to investigate this further or they need to stop selling this battery. There is no point swapping perfectly good cells every couple of months, because the BMS controller dies.

I am willing to send my defective batteries in for investigation. What is the best way to contact iFixit in a case like this?
