Laptop unable to connect to Mesh WiFi

Hi, I'm unable to connect my Acer Aspire 5734Z to our Deco M4 mesh WiFi network which our TV, tablet, phones have no problem connecting to. I've tried running network diagnostics, rebooted the router as instructed but no go - any suggestions?

Hi,

Has it connected before OK to your network?

Can you connect to other WiFi networks OK?

If you have Win 10 try starting the laptop in safe mode with networking and check if you can connect to the WiFi OK.

If you can then perhaps there is a problem with your A/V settings or Firewall settings.

Hi jayeff, thank you for the reply! I'm running Window's 7 - it worked fine connecting to my MoFi router's WiFi until I added the mesh system a few months ago. The laptop sees that new network but can't connect so I'll look into the firewall thing you suggested. I'm thinking of using a local coffee shop's WiFi so I can make sure network drivers etc are updated. Deco install failed until I went into my router settings and changed it to bridge mode, I'm also now getting both 2.4 & 5GHz, where I only got 2.4 with the router alone. I don't know enough about advanced network settings to know what to change or look for but I'm wondering if this might be the issue.

Hi,

Try to manually reset the laptop’s network adapters using Command input and check if you can successfully connect afterwards.

Here’s how to do this in the laptop.

Type command in the search box at the bottom of the Start Menu, and then right click on Command Prompt when it appears in the results. (command doesn’t have to be typed in bold. I didn’t want to add quotation marks so as not to confuse)

Click on Run as Administrator.

In the command window type the following 5 commands, one at a time and press the Enter key after each command entry. Yes there is a space inserted between each of the words and also before but not after the / symbol

If you make a typing mistake you have to use the backspace key to go back and retype all the letters you have deleted. Old style computer entry ;-)

netsh winsock reset

netsh int ip reset

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

ipconfig /flushdns

Close the command window and restart the laptop

When it has restarted try to connect to the network. You will have to enter network password details again etc.
