1 out of 3 calls people cannot hear me.

Customer came in with the problem that people can’t hear him and that there is static. I tried using it and have no issues whatsoever.

How do I begin to diagnose this “problem” if I can’t find one. I was thinking it might be the dock. Noise cancellation might not be working correctly and is filtering his voice. Suggestions?

It is hard to determine the fault when it happens intermittently. But since one of the signature faults on the iPhone 7 is the audio ic I would just remove it reball it run some jumpers and put it back on. You could try opening up voice memos and then flexing the phone and see if it becomes unavailable.

These are the common symptoms of audio ic

  • Callers can't hear you
  • Voice memos are greyed out
  • Sound doesn't record on videos
  • Siri can't hear you
  • You hear static on calls
  • Speakerphone doesn't work
  • Phone takes a very long time to boot

I was thinking of Audio IC as well, but it only has the static issues, so I rather not YOLO reball it and hope it gets fixed, but if I can't find the cause I have no other choice.

My thinking on this would be that the C12 trace has broken but it is still making slight contact. Do the audio ic. If you haven’t done one before let us know and I will give you some tips.

Decided to replace the charging flex first. That part was replaced by someone and they might have used a cheap one. My motto is if it ain't broken then don't fix it. Replacing Audio IC will be the next step.
