MacBook Pro turns off during boot

I was trying to assist a friend with upgrading his Mac. I added some ram and an ssd. As soo. As I tried to boot it turned on and showed a o with a line through it. “Looked like the sign around the ghost from ghostbusters logo.” I then attempted to put the original parts back in and now that I have done so the Mac turns on, chimes, and then I see the loading bar and Apple then it turns off. I don’t know what do do. It won’t boot into recovery mode with cmd-R and I have tried cmd-d cmd-s and I tried to reset the P-ram. At this point I’m stuck and don’t know what to do…

This may have to do with the formatting of the drive. First put the old drive back in and see if the Prohibit Icon is still there.

What system were you running? Did the SSD drive have a system installed on it?

The ssd did not contain an os. I installed high sierra on an install usb. I also am replacing the stock 2gb of ram with 4gb I got from a different mac . I put the old drive and ram back in and it wont boot. As I said it shuts off as it tries to boot. where should I go from here?

Leave the old drive and RAM in for now.

Is it possible that you updated Mac OS with a version that is not supported by your MBP?
