How to change the date and time in Nikon Coolpix model L2?

When I change the batteries in my Nikon Coolpix model L2 camera, the date reverts to December, 2005. The menu gets me to Settings/Date/Time Zone. But nothing shows how to set the correct calendar date. Can someone tell me?

The screens for selecting year, month, day and time settings do not appear. All I see is a toggle for time zone. My camera is old, an L2 model. The manual, which I have, does not include detail screens. On page 64, it just says to set the camera clock to the current date and time. In the visible field where the date and time should display, there is nothing. It's possible that some internal component has failed. Perhaps the best idea is to put a new camera on my birthday wish list.

Hi @feagle ,

Just to add to the answer, the user guide - p.65states that the camera has a "clock battery" which maintains backup power to the camera for at least 10 hours.

I don't know if it is actually a battery or a capacitor mounted on the motherboard but either way it may be faulty as it should maintain the camera's date settings etc. when the main battery is being removed/replaced, at least for nearly 10 hours anyway..

The manual does state that it takes about 10 hours to charge, either from the main battery or the AC adapter.

Perhaps @oldturkey03 can find the service manual to see what it actually is and how hard it is to replace ;-)

This service manual webpage is considered dangerous by Chrome and it blocks any attempt to download the file - strange as I have used the same website a lot in the past.

@feagle @jayeff checked the service manual and it looks like they are using a capacitor on this one instead of a CMOS battery.
