I have a late 2011 15
Macbook Pro what is the most ram and biggest SSD drive I can put in this computer. Currently have 8 gb of ram would like to get at least 16 and I have a 500 gb SSD would like to get at least 1 TB SSD or preferably a 2 terabyte SSD

Apple officially states it takes maximum 8 Gb RAM, however in reality it can be upgraded up to 16Gb, just make sure you purchase sticks that have been tested and run on Macs as RAM can sometimes be a bit troublemaking. Although I never placed a 2TB drive myself, I never heard of problems related to SSDs capacity, any size should do providing it’s compatible with 6.0 Gb/s SATA 3.0

If you really need storage Samsung offers a 16 TB SSD drive that fits! A 16TB SSD: OMG!!
Most find a 4 TB is more than enough Samsung 860 EVO SSD product specs
My own MacBook Pro 15" 2012 system has 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB Samsung SSD. You do want the replace the HD SATA cable when you upgrade to a SSD as many of the older cables can't support the higher I/O the SSD can push.
@danj I was quite sure you could add some useful info here, but a 16TB SSD isn't something I would expect ;)
@arbaman - Surprisingly, I've put in a few 2 TB into MacBook Pro Unibodies! Mostly into event DJ systems, I put in one 4 TB into a video artist 17" system.
I've installed several of the FireCuda 2 TB SSHD in the 2012 machines but be sure to format them APFS before installing High Sierra or Mojave. Upgrading the system later messes then up.
