magsafe 1 - repairing the cord

Hy everyone,

My issue is with the magsafe 1 from Mac. While clearing the cord suddenly broken and stopped completely to work.

The only correction at my point of view was changing the cord which a purchased over internet and upon arrival changed and for my bad surprise even changing with new one the charger is no longer working properly.

Connected to the power at the wall and plugged to the mac it lights up the brown or green light at the connector but shortly lights off and no charges to the battery is going on.

I even purchased another one, but not the original and it works, but the battery isn't charging 100%.

One or another clue would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

I’m repairing a couple myself this coming week as I finally found a guide to do it.

I got the cables here:

also ordeedr for the Mag=Safe II here. then found out it ships out of China:

Come back and ask later in the week to see if I was successful ;-)

@mayer - You are taking on a great risk here!

Between the fire risk if you are cracking open the case, if the power wires in the cord short with the signal wire you'll damage the power circuit in the laptop.

Do review this Teardown and exploration of Apple's Magsafe connector make sure you've used the correct cord for the given charger.

I don’t try to fix the MagSafe chargers. The MagSafe connector has some logic in it which is unique to the given charger wattage. So the cord you got may not be the correct one. Teardown and exploration of Apple's Magsafe connector. Additionally, if you mis-wire the cable you can damage your system and often times a worn cable can short out also killing your system!

So where does that leave us??

I would just get the correct real MagSafe charger your system needs and make sure the DC-In board connection in your system is in good shape.
