Touch is not working on half screen - How to fix it?

Hi,

I have iPhone 2G and half of the touch screen is not responding.

I can't even "Slide to unlock"..

My question is:

I'm holding LCD screen of the iPhone 2G.

But I don't understand what is responsiable for the touch? Which part is the touch?

Can you please help me understad how to fix the touch + understand what is this thing called "touch"? Is it a piece of screen? A connector?

This is what I have - And if you can explain what is the 3 parts there, it will be nice :)

The 2g has an all in one dispay.... The glass is glued to the digitiser (touch screen) which is glued to the LCD. You can't remove one without damaging the others... Many of us have tried and failed. If the touch no longer works you need to replace the display as one ( usually how it is sold but some people sell just the glass )

+ Shai dont even think about trying to just replace the glass or the digitizer ;-). Like pollytintop says, do it as a combined unit.

"The digitizer is a thin, clear film over your device's display that tells the device exactly where you have touched the screen. It it made of two layers of film that contain conductive points in them. They are held slightly apart by a thin, non-conductive mesh. When you press against the film, it completes a circuit where you touch and tells the device those coordinates.
