Hi,

The water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the speaker’s operating design and could damage the components.

First do not turn on your speaker and then you need to with the speaker turned off, remove the battery as soon as possible from the speaker to minimize further damage.''

Then you need to dis-assemble the rest of the speaker and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 90%+ (available from electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion and water. Do not use "rubbing alcohol" as in some cases this is only 70% IPA or less, can contain scents and is not as effective. If you do check the label to verify the amount of IPA

Here is a link that describes the process.

Electronics Water Damage

You may have to replace the battery as it is very hard to recover a battery from water damage.

As always with electronics, especially surface mounted pcb be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board.

Hopefully after you have done all this the speaker might possibly work correctly again.

Here is a link to the ifixit guide(s) for repairing your speaker.

Amazon Echo

If this process seems too daunting, take your speaker to a reputable, professional electronics repair service and ask for a quote for a repair. If you decide to do this, do it sooner than later.

@jayeff good to see you back. Hope you had a safe trip:-)

Hi @oldturkey03 ,

Thanks

Had a great trip.

Bit hard to send pics as communications were a bit patchy, due to the provider I use when travelling not being present in many of the locations where I was. Hopefully will be able to send some soon to make up for for not sending before. (The provider originally claimed to cover 98% of the country but were forced to amend it to 98% of the population, to truly reflect the reality of their coverage!)

Cheers.

I don't think anybody could cover even close to 98% of your country :-) Love to see pictures from your last adventure.

Once it has been submerged and while it’s drying out, how do you move the smarthome devices that were connected to the newly damaged one to another hub so they’ll work?? I cant figure it out in the Alexa App. ??‍♀️??‍♀️

I was cleaning the other night and my Alexa fell right into my bucket of oxiclean and water. I got her out right away, dried her off with paper towels, I thought she was a goner. She sounded like she was talking under water 😂 I stuck her in a bag of rice for 2 nights, took her out today and she's feeling much better. She's talking like her normal self again.

Hi Natalia, welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that won't work, for a proper explanation of why that is, you may want to read this article https://www.ifixit.com/News/30047/rice-i....

If you're interested in trying to fix your device for good, I suggest you take a look at the link provided by Jayeff on Electronics water damage. Should you have any doubts on how to go about disassembling and cleaning your smartspeaker, please don't hesitate to ask
