My laptop has error code problems!

Ok I will try to make this short and sweet, My laptop would not turn on unless I removed the old ram, once removed it would boot up just fine. I ordered a new ram card from crucial that had a higher speed and now my laptop boots up to an error code that states the kernel is missing or corrupted. I again decided to order another ram card with the same speed as the manufacturer and it did the same thing as when the old ram was in it, nothing, just a black screen. I have re-installed windows ten almost 4 times now, wiping out all partitions to see if that would work and no luck so far. The motherboard is recognizing the crucial memory when it is in but I cant even get to the recovery option on my thumbdrive as it jumps straight to that kernel error message. I'm at my witts end

Hi @smittyusmc09 ,

Try disconnecting the HDD and then boot from a USB with a memory test program to check that the memory (or memory controller) is OK

took the hdd out and it got to 7% before it said there are hardware problems detected. now what?

Hi @smittyusmc09 ,

Try your different RAM modules one at a time to see if it works OK with each one or not

there is only one slot for ram on the mother board, I tried the ram that came with the unit and another one I just bought the other day with the same specs and all I get is a black screen with the caps lock light on and the light bulb icon light on.

Hi @smittyusmc09 ,

I don't know your laptop so went on the one you listed.

The specs show 12GB or RAM that's why I assumed you had more than one slot.

So either stick of RAM doesn't boot up now.

What happened before when you got to 7% with the memory test program, it must have booted from the USB to start the program that you loaded onto it?
