Why does my PC randomly restarts?

Hey! My PC randomly shuts down. but it will reboot, however the screen will not load but the internals power on. Therefore I hard reboot it every time .

This can happen several times a day most days and within minutes to a couple of hours before it restarts.

The hardware I use are:

  • Graphics card: GeForce GTX 780 Ti
  • Motherboard: MSI A68HM-E33V2
  • AMD A10-7700k Radeon R7, 10 compute cores 4C +6G (4 CPUs)
  • DDR3 8GB Cruical RAM
  • Corsair RM-1000 PSU
  • Blue WD 1TB Hard drive.

I have checked the internal temperatures which are fine, reinstalled Windows 10 and I did replace the PSU but that didn't fix it either.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you :)

Hi @ichigo123 ,

When this happens, do you hear the computer momentarily wind down? Do you hear the fans slow down a little?

Does the system instantly reboot as if you hit the restart button, or does it freeze slightly before rebooting?

Any recent hardware changes that may have caused this?

Hi @ichigo123 ,

If you have Win 10 installed try the following to see if you can get a blue screen with an error message when it shuts down by disabling the auto restart option. If so hopefully the error message may give an indication of the problem.

In Windows, search for and open View advanced system settings.

When the system properties window opens

Click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section.

Remove the check mark next to Automatically restart under System Failure, and then click OK.

Restart the computer.

Here’s a link that explains the procedure better than I can. Scroll to Windows restarts for no apparent reason. (even though the link is for HP computers, the setting applies to all Win 10 computers not just HP)

Also, just to eliminate the possibility of faulty RAM causing the problem, download and run MemTest86 V7.5 Free image for a bootable USB drive and boot the computer using the software on a USB flashdrive (change the boot order in the PC to USB first boot option )
