yamaha p115 power on button...


i have a problem with my Yamaha p115:

it won't turn off.... all of a suden now when I try to turn it off, the red light will turn off for a fraction of a second and then turn on again. While doing so, the keys are irresponsive for a few seconds (the same way they are when you just power on the keyboard)

So to turn it off I have no choice but to unplug the keyboard.

Also, when I plug it, it automatically turns on...

Note that sometimes I manage to turn it off with the power button but it works like 1 time out of 20

please help, the keyboard is only 6 month old...

I have the same problem the switch doesn't turn the piano off and the keys won't play have to unplug to turn it off. since there are 3 of us and probably more its more than likely a faulty switch and they should be fixing it for free. great piano when it works.

Now when i on it, i need to press on button so the red light will bright up and got sound, now my button is unable to press off so been switching off main power. Also i notice the error is not consistent 1 type duration problem. Like initially you can played for 1 to 20 minutes and suddenly totally press no sound again which i need to on off main power for 10 time to able to lucky to get the lucky attempt to play 2 hours. From my research it mentioned something about wet or moist related which cause this, make me remember it happen after i cover whole with piano cloth for few months and no sound issue appeared. Cant on or off by button is a small problem but no sound was a bigger issue. Now I already don't cover my piano with cloth & I shut my window totally no open to prevent rain water because as mentioned above is some condense moist triggered this issue. Now every week i still using main power to off, for on after on main power then i need to press piano on/off button 1 time for the red light to bright up then will work already. Gd Luck.

What was the problem then, moist? Because mine behaves similar + play led blinks. Alas no sound. Any recommendations as for what can be done?

First u try to use the code the hold the 2 button that we use to switch key note and try to on the sound manually if you lucky the sound may come back. Also to test lock and unlock to check is there any accidentally or bug which off the sound (If not sure Just trial and error keep testing & also play with the on off button in someway u might able to on it. Possible reason may be long hours of play such as 3 hrs + daily once the power button overheated the sound immediately dead somehow through my experience. Probably inside might have some wet substance our (sweat), after airing it may dry up and everything back to normal. Suggest to just air it for 1 month normal temperature don't cover it. If it worked i will suggest try not to off by the button as it goes fragile especially for regular player. Don't be too happy yet the sound may come back 2 minutes and die again. Suggest it to air it again until it don't die halfway such as 2 min, 5 mins 10 mins. I am glad my piano revived for me. Good luck.

There is a 12 month manufacturer’s warranty on the P-115 digital piano.

Given that the digital piano is only 6 months old, I suggest that you first verify the purchase date of the digital piano to ensure that the warranty period is still valid. If it is still valid, consult the manufacturer’s warranty statement that came with the piano, as to what you have to do to make a claim for a manufacturer’s warranty repair or replacement.

Here is a link to the Yamaha USA warranty for the piano. A quick check online shows that the warranty period for this series piano is mostly the same worldwide.

If you can’t find your warranty statement, search online for Yamaha P-115 warranty for your location

I cannot find a service manual for your model digital piano, however I have found one for a Yamaha P-120 which I hope may be close enough to your model to show you how to gain access the the unit’s On/Off switch so that you can test it with a Ohmmeter (with the power disconnected) to see if it is operating/releasing correctly.

Besides testing just the switch, also check that there is no short circuit (s/c- bit of loose wire etc) between the wires on the connectors as shown by the green arrows in the image below. The red arrow shows the switch in question. Do not be confused by the switch shown by the blue arrow as this is just an overload current protection switch and not the On/Of switch.

As I said earlier, I hope that your model will be similar to this one, at least as far as this part of the circuit goes.

According to the circuit, the switch (SW201) has a parts designation of VQ670600. This doesn’t mean that your switch is the same or has the same part number. I have only included this information hoping that there may be a part number stamped on your switch and it will be the same or very similar, (given the closeness of the piano model numbers, I’m hoping that they may have used the same parts for a lot of the components).

It may be that if the switch is faulty , (searching online, using this number gives no results), that you may be able to contact Yamaha spare parts for your location and quote the part number, found on your switch, to them (if there is one), to see if they can supply just the switch.

Also just reminding you that if you decide to open the piano to try and locate the fault that you’ll be voiding the manufacturer’s warranty.

thank you for your answer jayeff. Indeed I can use the warranty but the problem is that I'll have to pay the shipping, and I live in martinique, french carribean island, Im going to have to pay like 100 euro and I'd like to avoid that.

Isn't there something i can do that could fix this?
