TV turns on and shuts back off

Hey guys!

I am working on a Sanyo TV and it shuts off as soon as I turn it on. So I am assuming it is a fuse. I have two pictures of the logic board and another of what I am guessing is the fuse.

Close up of what I believe to be the fuse. It is glass looking.

My next question is where would I find a fuse like that?

And how do you test powrr boards in a TV with a multimeter. These are not like computers and will shock you if you touch them. So i wasnt sure if there is another way.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

It seems more like an overheating problem than a power input problem as it stays on for so long and then shuts down. Doing this all the time i.e. on / off/ on /off etc after it has been on and then shuts down is understandable as whatever was overheating is still hot. If it is allowed to cool down for a while does it turn on and stay on for longer?

Use the flowcharts in the service manual for the “no power condition” etc to see if you can find out what’s happening when it has powered down.

Testing mains powered appliances is the same as everything else. You just have to be aware at all times that there is potentially lethal voltage available on the Power board.

Make sure that the meter is connected between the chassis earth (use a lead with an alligator clip so that you only have to use one hand when testing, keep the other behind your back - just kidding) and whatever test point you’re testing, ensure that the meter is set to the correct function - DC Volts and the appropriate range to test (start high then drop back).

DO NOT bridge a meter test probe across two points next to each other, as this can cause more component damage and even sparks and flashes. Stay focused on what you’re doing
