Re-usability of film and testing working ability.

I found the repair instructions informative but scary.

I have a Polaroid one-step but not sure if it works. When I press the shutter I assume I should see it close and re-open but I see nothing.

Does this only engage when it has film& battery inside?

I have film but I am unsure if it will be ruined if I test my camera with it and it does not work.

Any information available on testing working ability of this camera or re-using new film once inserted into the camera is GREATLY appreciated!!!

Yes you need the film in the camera because the battery is in the film pack. What will happen when you test is a picture will be taken and ejected from the front of the camera to process. The film cannot be reused and I would leave the film pack in the camera to keep from losing pictures. Here is a link on operating your camera.

I actually have 2 of these cameras, so I'm well aware of this, mine are more aged tough, s one is from 1983 and the other from 1988

You will need a new film pack to make sure it's not the camera as the film pack is where the battery is, most likely the camera works(mine still do, I need cheap film), it's just a dead battery, you can get a Polaroid film pack with a good battery that ran out of pictures to test if you have a few, or someone has one for you and will loan it out

It only engages with a film pack because the battery is in the film, yes

No, if the film is no good, it won't develop properly, or won't develop at all, the camera won't be affected, so don't worry about that, if you take the film out of the camera, you'll lose an exposure more often then not
