Jura J5: Tray missing ongoing

Hello,

We've had Jura Impresa J5 for around 5 years now. We use it daily to make about 3-5 cups of coffee a day.

From the beginning the machine was prone to displaying "Tray missing". When it was sent to Jura repair centre it was return as "no problems all is good". The problem continued over the years and the way to fix was to turn it on and off, clean the metal contacts at the end of the tray, bang it more forcefully

And now nothing works. I have a feeling the problem is that the contacts are no longer touching the end where they indicate that the tray is inserted.

Hi,

Here is a link to the Ifixit guide on how to disassemble your coffee maker. Once you have done this, or done enough to see what you need to, it may be possible to ascertain if it is a wiring connection problem behind the contacts that make the connection with the tray. You state that by banging it, it worked. Therefore it could have been a connection problem, e.g a dry joint solder connection but now perhaps due to the banging, over time the wire has broken off the terminal. This is only a thought as I haven't seen what is behind the contacts.

Greatly appreciated.!

Will also look at how the contacts from the tray touch the contacts that signal the tray is inserted. Have a feeling this could be another source of the problem.

WD 40 worked.Clean two metal contacts with WD 40 with screw driver and rag inside machine. Clean two metal contacts on the trey. This worked for me I'm sure it will work for many people.

Hello,

In the end it was the contacts at the tray that seem to have not been clean. I cleaned them with electric contact cleaner and then sprayed with WD40. For the last 6 weeks it is all working perfectly.

IMPORTANT:

previously I was treating the contacts visible from the top. This is NOT that matters - it is the side of the contacts that can be seen at the bottom of the tray. Please refer to the attached photo.

Upon examination we found a coffee bean lodged in one of the terminals inside the unit housing. A few minutes poking at it with a stir stick and viola!
