MacBook Pro intermittent recharging

Hi guys,

Recently my MB started to recharge intermittently. When i connect my laptop to the power supply the led randomly change from orange to green while the screen changes its brightness and, as a consequence of this, my battery gets recharged intermittently. I thought that it was due to the cable of the magsafe power supply but there aren't any damages along it.

However the problem is visible when the device is used, because when it's off or in standby mode the led is orange until the battery is full charged, then it normally turns green.

I tried to reset the SMC and i disconnected the battery but nothing changed

Battery is at 90% of its health (according to battery health) and it has 835 cycles and it is 5.1 years old

OSX El Capitan 10.11.4

Inspect the MagSafe connectors contacts both on the cord and the system.

You may want the clean them, use a cotton swab (Q-Tip) slightly dampened with some isopropyl alcohol (85% or better). See if that fixes things.

Mmm... I'm wondering if your display issues is more to do with the auto screen brightness function. In this series the iSight camera is also the photo sensor for the screen brightness control. See if turning is off from the keyboard function key alters things. If not you may want to clean the iSight camera connection on the logic board.

As far as the MagSafe charger alternating between Green & Amber only when you are running, but working as it should when shutdown or in sleep mode. I'm suspecting the battery is just showing its age, its getting close in needing replacement. It could be a cell or two are starting to breakdown which is the real source of both issues.

Yes Dan, I didn't explain correctly, the brightness issue m is due to the alternating charging / discharging issue and so, due to the "save energy" function which is activated.

I thought too that the battery would be the problem but I can't explain why the system tells me that its state is normal, maybe because it measures it by counting the cycles?

Changed the battery, the problem is still present. Any suggestion?

mmm ... By chance did you get your system wet at sometime? I'm starting to think you have some corrosion lingering on the logic board which has gotten moist with the higher humidity of the summer getting it to corrode some more, so its now causing this.
