Go to System preferences> StartUp Disk, and make sure that your internal HD is selected as your start-up Volume. It may be taking this long if it's trying to boot from a network. If that is ok on that end, then I would boot into safe mode by holding the shift ket while booting. This will repair any directory issues, if any. You should also re-index your HD.

This is a longshot, but I've seen MacBooks, especially Aluminum Pros, take 5-15 minutes to start up as a result of bad DC-ins. When this is the case, they typically work fine once they finally do boot up, and generally also the Firewire or USB ports (or both) fail to work (the computer recognizes something is plugged into the ports, but it won't "bring up" the device that is plugged in).

What is on the screen during the 7 minutes it takes to boot? One good test would be to boot from another machine's hard drive using a Firewire cable and target/option mode, and see if that also takes 7 minutes.

Hey RDK, good to see you here. Did you ever resolve that really quirky issue with the iBook and the troubles with batteries and DC-In?

+ thanks for the comment but it has my brow furrowed wondering why this would happen. Could you elaborate?

I should have stated that this is not common, and it's more common with Aluminum Pros (which have a fairly elaborate DC-in/sound card, which more can go wrong with power-wise). I've seen the issue in 3 different Pros over the years. As for what causes it, I'm not sure...maybe a power surge?

Thanks Majesty! Sorry but I'm not sure which issue you're referring to?
