Need more disk space

I'll say it right off the bat, I don't know a whole lot about computers. On my windows C drive I have only about 5.93 GB of space(out of 149 GB) and the number is shrinking every day. I have taken actions to shrink this number and uninstalled lots of unneeded programs, also I have used disk cleanup, but still it continues to go down, and I do share the computer with others so I don't know what is downloaded all the time. At the same time my Data D drive I have 719 GB free out of 761 but I don't know if I am able to move any big programs (like WoW which we have installed) because it doesn't have the Program 86 folder or if it's any different from the windows C one. Am I able to combine the 2, and is the Data drive any different from the windows C? Also are there any ways I can clear up more space on my main drive?

Any help would be appreciated.

Solución Elegida

The only things you can't move from the C drive are the core Windows files. Things like your Steam library (or any other games), movies, pictures, documents, downloads, and almost any installed program can be moved. Keep in mind that any program you move with a shortcut will need to have the shortcut location changed.

I highly recommend a small program called WinDirStat to help you determine what is taking up the most space. It constructs a visual representation of the contents of your hard drive, very handy for situations like yours.

There are different ways can help you some way.

This first step simply involves going through a list of the existing programs and uninstalling the ones you no longer need. Take Windows 7 as an example.

Uninstall Junk Programs

1. Click the Start button.

2. In the search box, type "Programs and Features" and press Enter.

3. Select Programs and Features from the list.

4. This gives you a list of the programs installed on your computer. Review the list and if you come across a program that you no longer require, or find redundant software such as multiple PDF readers, select the program you don't want from the menu, right-click, and choose Uninstall.

Disk Cleanup Utility

1. Click the Start button.

2. In the search box, type "Disk Cleanup." Click on Disk Cleanup when it appears at the top of the list of available items.

3. In the list of drives, select the disk drive that you want to clean up (typically the C: drive).

4. In the Disk Cleanup dialog box, on the Disk Cleanup tab, check the boxes for the file types you want to delete. I recommend selecting all of them – ensure that you haven’t thrown any files in the Recycling Bin that you want to get back! Then click OK.

5. When the Disk Cleanup prompt asks “Are you sure you want to permanently delete these files?” click Delete Files.

Disk space is limited and free disk space will never be increased as long as a new hard disk is used to store data. You can also resize disk partitions or free up disk space to spare free space for partitions needing expansion.
