New hard drive not recognized by disk utilities

I bought a new hard drive and inserted it into the harddrive slot. After restarting the drive is not recognized by disk utilities

Update

Got a replacement of the hard drive. The old one was a lemon.

Now all things are functioning.

Thank you again.

Some history on why you replaced the old drive would help us help you. Also, what drive are you trying to use and where did it come from? Is it a known "good drive"?

Hello

I want to have a bigger hard drive, mine that came with the MacBook has 100 GB capacity.

So I bought a western digital scorpio blue 500 GB SATA HD 5400 rpm.

I bought it at a cp reseller nearby.

Thanks for helping

Solución Elegida

It's possible

the drive is not connecting. The rubber bushing or dampers on the sides can bunch up as the drive is slid toward the connector. Can you hear or feel the drive spin up?

A sure fire way to tell if the drive is faulty would be to remove the top case and look. Or to remove the side pins from the drive and check that you can slide it onto the connector. If it mounts or shows up in Disk Utility after that you know where the problem lies (dampers).

If this answer is acceptable please return and mark it

Good Luck,

I think that is the problem that I am not sure if the drive spins up. I will check tomorrow with my

pc reseller.

Thank you for your answer at the moment.

I am having a similar issue. My old hard drive crashed in my Late 2007 Macbook according to apple specialists at the apple store, so I bought a new 1TB 2.5" hard drive and replaced it myself. I inserted my Snow Leapard install disk, and I start to go through the steps, but when it asks "where you want to install Mac OS X" the box below is empty. I've tried taking the HD out and putting it in again, being cautious of the rubber, and its seeming to fit well. I even heard a small beep once when I unplugged it. Why isn't my new HD showing up for me to install my software?

Help please?!

Kayley - For future reference you posted a Question in the place where only Comments belong. Please create your own original Question. Before attempting to install the OS did you neglect to use DiskTools to FORMAT the HD in Mac GUID for Intel machines?
