Why is my new battery "(Not Charging)"?

Bought a replacement A1322 battery here on ifixit for my macbook pro, early 2011 model. I followed all instructions to install it.

I still have the same battery indicator in the menu bar that I had with the old battery: The icon shows the battery plugged in, with the words "(Not Charging)".

After reading a similar (though not identical) question and the answers that user got, I took the whole thing apart again, and checked: the connector is as tight as it should be, properly seated.

Also reset the PRAM and the System Management Controller (SMC). Still no battery charge.

The magsafe light is a steady green; no orange/red to indicate charging. The computer will not start without the magsafe power cord.

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem is (what lead to the original problem, liquid spill, dropped, crushed etc) the more assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it..

Your ID fits at least two different versions of machines a more specific ID is a good place for us to start.

Many of the more recent laptops will not boot without a ~15% charge to the battery... so it needs to be charged to at least that state to ensure a boot.

BTW this is not iFixit customer support - this is the volunteer DIY help forum. We are not affiliated with iFixit in any way. If you think the battery is defective (it could be) then use the link below to contact iFixit directly.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

Thanks for the reply, machead3.

The model (according to "About This Mac", "more info") is MacBookPro 8,1.

2.3 GHz Intel Core i5

4 GB 1333 MHz3 DDR3

I have also asked in customer support, but thought that there might be a tip that a fellow user could provide that would solve the problem before Monday. Just possibly. With luck. I hope.

I hope this information helps to narrow things down.

Thanks again for your help!

You can try removing the battery for 5 hrs or so then reconnecting it very carefully. It could be an incomplete connection - it could be a damaged connector (only you would know this), Macbook Pro8,1 could be either an early or late '11... you didn't say why you decided you needed a new battery.
