Replaced screen, now have horizontal white lines. Ideas?

Good evening all,

I am working to replace what I thought was a completely broken screen on an iPhone 5 CDMA. I ordered a replacement screen. It works well as I tested it on my working phone. When I connect it to the damaged phone, I see a bunch of white lines horizontal across the screen, if I continue to hit the power button it slowly becomes one white, still line ridden screen.

Any ideas what to check? The connectors for the screen/digitizer/etc look fine on the board, but I could be wrong?

The problem is your digitizer connector, clean and reseat all connectors, each time you seat a connector hold your finger on it, then slide the plate under your finger then tighten the screws.

Hey Alexander, eman05 is right about reseating the display cables. Check out the warning note here on step 10 for some details about how to reconnect the cable and power cycle your phone. Best of luck!

I've gotten this problem before on just a couple iphone 5 repairs. I actually have one now that I'm waiting for a customer to return to me for a new screen. I'll be sure and try this.

I had a similar problem with a laptop

Here what you should try , disconnect the cable and connectors and re-connect them **Important** make sure you don't touch the cables or connectors with the screw driver....use a plastic tool to push the connectors

Good luck

Always disconnect your battery before replacing the screen. Mine had the same problem, you can try do take the display apart from the phone, unplug the battery, reconnect the display and then plug back the battery. There may be a soft "ghost" of the lines after you do this, but as the time goes, they will get lighter and almost disappear.

Good luck!

Block Image

I had the same problem with horizontal lines. I tried unplugging and plunging the cables many times and it did not work. I tried cleaning them and it did not work. Finally I realized that when I change the position of the screen at a certain angle it stops. After an hour of trying to figure it out, I realized that there is a chip like component in the new screen where all three cables are connected to the screen. (See Image) When you bend the cables and try to place the screen in the right position to complete the installation, that chip like component touches the screen itself and it makes flickering. I just places some paper behind that component so that it does not touch the back of the screen. No more flickering. At the end of the day, it was mainly because of the new screen's cable connections. If you can not find the right spot and fix it, return the item and get a new one.

I believe it's related to connection from screen to the main board.. try to remove the connection, make sure the connector is clean and not bent.. and reconnect it..

I am currently having this issue after replacing the screen/digitizer on my iphone 5s. I have removed and cleaned the connections twice with no luck. Am I looking at a defective replacement part?

Reemplazo de la Batería del iPhone 6

Read Jason Erickson's solution in the above post to the Vertical Bars. Once you've checked the connectors are seated properly leave the phone on for a few hours and the bars just start fading away. I can barely see mine now unless I rack up the brightness to full, but only been a few hours.
