Is it possible to build an iPhone?

Basically, I want to know if I could build one. Buy all the parts, some how put firmware and what not on it, and then put it together. Also, would it work with a simcard, or would I need some type of authentication?

yes. i have already put three iPhones together, from cannibalized parts. all of them work up to this date.

as you need to put together original parts, you also doesnt need to load any operating system, or do any programing. everything is there.

its like LEGO. well, a wee bit tougher...

How do you get every single part though? You'd have to buy broken iPhones in the first place, you don't just buy some of those apple proprietary chips from OWC exactly

It's not like there's that many parts- if you get a bunch of parts that work, you can certainly build a phone that works.

did you have to build your logic board yourself? i couldn't find any logic board with complete chips. how about bios/rom like software? is it pre installed?

- de

did it end up being cheaper than buying a iphone from apple

Cobbling together a bunch of old iPhones into a working one is one thing. Which is where most of the dialog here is about.

If you were thinking you could get the discreet parts and put it together thats really not possible.

I do wonder if it's worth it Vs buying a new one. Most of the parts sold as new would cost much more than a new phone. If you have a bunch of junkers that didn't cost much and you had the time and doggedness to do it then go for it!

This is possible but the most vital part you need is a genuine working apple logic board if you can't some how get the logic board you are good to go.

Its like disassembling a new iPhone than putting it back to gather but before assembling someone swaps every part besides the logic board.

You can find good replacement part for every thing under a $100 on eBay. But the logic board is everything and if it not genuine than your not going to run ios

How do you know if the board is genuinely? Is there a way to check before the item is bought?

- de

They won't sell non-genuine boards on account of the fact that they would never work and would run afoul of EBay's report system pretty quick.

I started with my wife's old 6s plus that was dropped into the toilet wreck the screen when it first hit the side of the toilet. The was also damaged from being in the toilet for a few hours so I bought just about every part I could find on eBay as if it was a 6splus so I built one well actually I didn't the repair shop where I took it did. But I bought genuine parts from repair places or places that refurbish iphones. I spent $210 on my custom iPhone 6s plus. The one part that is not oem is the rear metal housing which is all flat black with a gold apple emblem. Works great I'm am using it now.

You guys Buy the Full Middle frame from the market which have all the material inside like( vibrate , Charging jack, both front and back camera, power button flex with all sensors and volume buttons inside and also have battery remover slider and ringer inside and home button. You just need a lcd , back cover , battery and logic board. Logic board is also available here on ifixit or on ebay .

Depends on the clone. Some of em, while an impressive job done making the outside look original, are the exact opposite of original on the inside. You can't even take the device apart as you normally would a same model iPhone. This stuff actually interests me, can you take some pictures and post here?

- de

@theimedic i think the 2 pentalobe screws come out and then the back pops off.

- de

@gigabit87898 depends on the clone. I actually get excited when people bring em in. There are different types of clones

- de

how do i post picture for this iphone 7 clone to show, anyone?

- de

@chxrrybxxm where did you buy the clones if I might ask ? thanks...

it's honestly not worth it at all unless you're doing it for practice.

As you can expect the logic board is the most exensive part

Then you need all the flex cables, all the contact clips, headphone jack/camera etc and even then this is all replica parts, not genuine Apple. the camera quality is not as good , vibrate/lock buttons, there's also parts you need for the headphone jack/speaker etc to fit flush (a small ring)
