iMac will not power on

iMac does not turn on after it was off for about a month.. I replaced the battery because the last time I powered up my date and time had reset to 1990. After the battery change, still nothing; no beep, no grey screen, no red light. What do I do?

Dennis Ohta, have you tried resetting the PMU (even through the button on the logic board)? Replace the PRAM battery? What have you tried so far?

- de

Did both, changed battery and reset PMU. Still nothing.

Tried disconnect and pulled PRAM overnight. Nothing. Do I retire my iMac and get a new one? Would I be able to transfer my old files in OS9 and OSX to the new one? Suggestions?

Solución Elegida

Disconnect from mains power... pull the PRAM battery overnight. Replace the PRAM battery, connect to mains power... attempt to start.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

Sorry, I added comment to wrong person. Tried your suggestions but it still didn't power up. Maybe it's time to get a new one. Would a new,one still accept my old files in OS X and OS 9?

Data will transfer... applications from OS 9 will not work on a new machine. The last machine/OS that supported classic (OS 9) are PowerPC-based Macintosh computers running versions of Mac OS X up to v10.4 "Tiger", Classic is not supported with v10.5 "Leopard", nor on any Intel-based Macintosh computers running any version of Mac OS X. The OS X apps may have updated versions or they may be obsolete. You'll have to explore this in depth and make a decision. ... I would advise moving into the 21st Century and finding replacement/compatible applications to accomplish whatever it is you use your old machine fo do. FWIW you'll probably need new printers, scanners and other peripherals as they may not work with OS X.

Thanks for the help. I should have paid attention to the signs and fixed it earlier before it shut down.
