During LCD repair this fell out... affect mic quality?

While I was replacing my LCD/digitizer/glass assembly this showed up on my work bench...

(it looks gold because of my light source, but it is silver)

It looks like some kind of grounding mesh (similar to what I have seen in the old 4th gen ipod that had the metal back).

My voice quality seems to have suffered (others not hearing me well) after my repair and I'm wondering if this has anything to do with it. I sound fine while on speakerphone and while using a headset w/mic.

I have searched for this everywhere but have found nothing on it. I hope someone knows what this is and that this is the cause of my microphone problem

Thanks.

drlewis506, you are correct in your comparison to your old iPod. That is a grounding pad. It provides ground between the case and the logic board, most of those pads are non-critical. Unless it grounds part of your mic circuitry, it should not affect the voice quality. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks oldturkey03! I'll be sure to replace this and see if it clears up my issue. The only other problem I had during my repair was breaking one the EMI fingers on the speaker enclosure/antenna assembly (the one closest to the logic board)... any idea if this would have any effect on the mic?

Thanks again
