Water damage. Battery drains quickly and slow to charge. What to do?

My phone got some water in it. Operationally, it works fine however sometimes the volume button doesn't work, it won't stay turned off, and it overheats. Mainly the battery is draining 1% every 2 minutes.

I took it to the Apple Genius Bar and was told chemically the battery tested out fine and that the water damage to the dock may be tripping out the battery (that sounds funny)

My question, should I replace the battery or the dock? Similar questions on here showed mixed responses and outcomes.

Would appreciate some advice. Thanks!

Volume Button mainly a problem of flex cable . dismantle the Iphone to check the Liquid damage on the logic board. clean it properly. leave it for 3-4 hours after washing the logic board. During that time check all the flex in frame . check for damage. if have damage replace it with new . then put together all the things like before and use it . check problem is there or not . try this first.

Jennifer, besides all the things SIMRAN suggest, I would go about it this way. Disassemble your phone using this guide. Clean every parts with 90%+ isopropyl alcohol. Use this guide to see how to clean it. It was written for a 3G but all the steps apply to your phone as well. Once it is cleaned properly, replace the battery. A water damaged battery " it overheats. Mainly the battery is draining 1% every 2 minutes.", might be the reason for that. Once you have all that accomplished, reassemble and re-evaluate. this is not to say that it will fix it 100% but at least you have a definite starting point. There is of course still the possibility that your logic board has a damaged PMIC or various other SMD components. So make sure that you take a good look at all those when you disassemble your phone. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks oldturkey03. Do you think it could be the dock at all? The Apple agent mentioned there was corrosion and that the dock is confusing the battery because it's damaged, making it charge slowly and drain quickly.

Hi I had this problem with an iPhone 5 which got wet in the rain but seemed to continue to work however the battery was draining quickly and sometimes it was not charging or switching on. I opened it up and used a hair dryer on hot to dry the top and to bottom of the phone (not the battery as I heard this was bad for it). Left it for 10 minutes to cool then repeated the process - the case was very hot. Works like a charm now good luck
