Troubleshooting
If you are having additional issues with your Smiths Medical BCI 3304, here is the troubleshooting page.
Background
The Smiths Medical BCI 3304 is a clinical grade digital pulse oximeter. It delivers readings on oxygen saturation and pulse rate. This pulse oximeter can be used in clinic, at home, or in a sleep study. This device was intended for use by clinical professionals, like nurses and clinicians. It was originally released in 2008 and was built as a lightweight and transportable design for easy use. There is no exact date for its discontinuation as distributors are still selling refurbished versions of this device.
The BCI 3304 was marketed globally, mainly selling in the United States and Europe. At the time of use, the Smiths Medical BCI 3304 sold for anywhere between $1200 to $1800. With refurbished sales, prices on this device have dropped to anywhere below $1000. There are no known manufacturer recalls or failure modes recorded for this particular device; as for any medical device, there is a list of cautionary warnings when using the device. The BCI 3304 pulse oximeter was known for its speed and reliability at its time of major use in the late 2000s.
This model replaced the BCI 3301 which did not have as many data readings and features as the BCI 3304 and also the shape of it changed from being a hand-held device to a table-top device for more accurate and reliable readings on different kinds of data. The BCI Autocorr Plus Pulse Oximeter/ECG/Respiration Monitor 3404 succeeded the BCI 3304, but was recalled. In June 2009, Smiths Medical also released another device called BCI SPECTRO2 Pulse Oximetry Portfolio; this model had even better accuracy than the BCI 3304 in readings.
The oximeter has a PC port for data communication, optional digital alarm adapter, and optional analog output. This oximeter also has a wall mount charger. The screen is powered by an LED display.
Identification
The Smiths Medical BCI 3304 is not terribly large in size, with a screen on the front to display the readings. You can also find on the front of the device buttons for pulse volume, alarm volume, silence volume, low battery, alarm, artifact, search, sensor, alarm select, ID clear, and volume up and down buttons. Readings for beats per minute (BPM) can be found on the right side of the screen and the readings for oxygen saturation percentage can be found on the left side of the screen. The bars next to the BPM are how pulse strength is rated. This device also has a handle built in on top along with printed directions on how to use the pulse oximeter on top of the device. The model number and name, Autocorr 3304, can be found on the bottom of the device.
