help with broken wifi antenna, what part to order?

My wifi antenna in my late 2008 unibody macbook has failed, I took my macbook in to the Apple store to see what was wrong and how much it would be to fix it. After diagnosis, the technician told me that my wifi antenna is bad, and that because it is in the display, I would have to replace my whole display to fix the problem.

Because I didn't want to pay the outlandish price for a new screen, I turned to this sight to see what solutions you guys had to offer. On the installation guide, I only see an Airport Card, but no mention of a wifi antenna. Did apple mean that I needed to replace my Airport card to get my wifi back? Basically, I am wondering what part I need to order to fix my broken wifi antenna which is located in the screen. Thanks in advance

i had this problem while replacing the LCD. Even though the Airport wires are in the screen they are not connected to anything related to the screen. The cheapest way to fix this would be to open screen deroute the airport antennas from the screen encasement. They will still work. Keep the wires though you can place them below topcase. Not pretty but that would be the cheapest way beyond finding a cheap screen on Ebay. Before you do that you should make sure the antennas are connected to the airport card by removing topcase etc...It seems more logical that the antennas are badly connected to airport card than broken in anyway,

Hi David,

You can actually remove just the airport card. No need to replace the whole screen, although, you will need to remove it to access it.

Basically remove the screen,

Slide the black plastic antenna cover

and you will see the airport card.

You can either buy it on ebay for cheap or find someone locally that might have it.

It's not too difficult to replace, but you have to be very careful otherwise, you could damage the pins on the board or the cable.

Exactly what are the problems with your computer?

Hi David! I Just found your post and it might suit me. My MacBook 2008 (Black) freezes everytime I turn on the wi-fi. I figure it should be the card that's malfunctioning, right?!
