Mi Problema

An innocent weekend at the shore turned to disaster when I left my iPhone 4S out on a table that had just enough liquid on it to render it "wonky". I did my best to dry it out, but I could not get any response from the phone, and it was clear that it would take a little more effort to (hopefully) revive my phone, or at least retrieve my data.

The phone would power on when plugged into an outlet via the higher power iPad plug, and it would attempt to restart when connected to a computer, but never completely start. With all this, I decided, at a minimum, I needed to replace the battery...Enter iFixit!

Mi SoluciĆ³n

The guides provided by iFixit are outstanding. I ordered the replacement part on a Monday and had it by 10am (EDT) on Tuesday. Opening the back of the iPhone and finding the battery connector was much easier than expected.

I installed the new battery and when I attached the connector cable, I saw the glow of the screen from the back side of the phone...Words can't describe how excited I was to see that. I wasn't out of the woods, yet, but at least I knew that I had taken a big step forward.

In the end, I determined that the total damage to the iPhone was beyond economical repair (home button did not work, speaker did not work, etc), but with the new battery, I was finally able to retrieve my pictures and other data...A big win after writing them off completely.

Mi Consejo

1. Don't get your iPhone wet.

2. Don't be intimidated by fixing it yourself.

3. Take your time

4. Follow the instructions

5. Enjoy the opportunity to learn a thing or two.
