iPod 4th Generation or Photo Battery Replacement

Mi Problema

iPod Photo purchased when first released. Replaced battery using iFixit parts, tools, and guide six or seven years ago. That battery started quitting when indicating about 1/2 charged. Decided time to fix it again.

Mi SoluciĆ³n

I couldn't get the case open. Trying from the right side as indicated in the guide, I couldn't get the blue triangular tool into the joint between the metal case bottom and the plastic top. Could get a utility knife blade in but couldn't pry further open. Found tools from 6 or 7 years ago, promptly destroyed them. Ordered iSesamo Opening Tool and waited to arrive. Could barely get it into the crack but couldn't pry or twist to get any further. Did scratch up both the plastic top and the metal bottom. Finally noticed comments at the start of the guide (none under the opening step). Comments mentioned starting from the TOP and not the right side. That worked with the iSesamo and got it started enough to use the blue plastic triangle down the right side to release 4 of the clips and break the 5th one. Trying to remember 6 years ago, I think I used a putty knife and the instructions said start at the top back then.

Every thing else went quickly and easily following the guide after that. No problem with the broken tab, the case snapped together tightly anyways. Will probably struggle again in 6 or 7 years to open it again. At least I now have scratches to guide me.

Mi Consejo

Perhaps mention starting at the top of the case? Suggest a metal tool if the blue plastic one doesn't want to get it started?
