The Asus X515 is a series of entry level laptops released in 2020.

Can the motherboard be swapped?

Hello, I had an Asus X515EA that I adored, but unfortunately, a voltage fluctuation caused a capacitor to overload and burn out. As a result, the laptop shows no signs of life and won't work. I took it to a specialist who advised me that it wouldn't be worth removing the capacitor, as that alone would cost around $60. Instead, I could sell the laptop for parts and find a better, more reliable one for a similar price.

After doing some research, I discovered that the motherboard of the Asus X515JA (the previous generation) has the same layout as the X515EA. This leads me to believe that I could potentially use the chassis of the X515EA with the motherboard from the X515JA. The motherboard for the X515JA is available for $70 on AliExpress from a seller with good reviews.

Would this transfer be possible? I understand that it may not be an upgrade, but I only need the laptop for daily office work and don't require a powerful CPU or GPU. Please let me know if this transfer would be possible to do.

As long as everything lines up perfectly, (IO ports, fan slots, etc), I dont see why not. Also, make sure the video connector on the motherboard is the same and the wifi board is in the same spot. The only thing that may not work is your laptop might not boot into Windows. You may need to reinstall Windows. For $70, I think it's worth a gamble. If all else fails, you're only out $70.
