omer, you say your device is getting hot, and I would check to see if there is a specific area that gets hottest. The most common part to get hot would be a IC, and most commonly it would be the power management IC. I would start with disassembling the iPod and taking some voltage measurement at the dock connector, and at the battery. I would expect it to get around 3.7V at the battery contacts. It is possible that you have a faulty battery that cause the IC to overheat, or vice versa. Let us know.

I have the same problem with no recognition by iTunes, not turning on, lower board gets hot when plugged into wall or the computer's USB. One time an SMD glowed like fire (chip, resistor, diode, or capacitor burned?). I've changed the power/volume flex twice. Battery showed .36V versus 3.7V. Checked new battery to confirm 3.7V, then soldered it in. Re-checked voltage on newly installed battery and has dropped to .40V. It drained by itself. Device never came on. Plugged it into computer's 500mA USB and that's when the SMD glowed and burned....I unplugged it quickly. Is it possible that during the soldering that I arched terminals?

I have a box full of iPod Touches that refuse to power back on after I changed out the destroyed aluminum housings. I totally gutted them and replaced the components in new bodies. Never to turn on again. Plugging it in, shorting the positive, pressing and holding both home button and hold button do nothing. HELPPPPPPPP!!!!!
