Replacement ribbon cable for headphone jack assembly

I have a broken ribbon cable/connector for my 60Gb iPod 4th gen photo iPod. Part number says 632-0322-A so purchased replacement, but replacement has different connector to logic/motherboard!!!! Both have same part number on cable!!

See image, top pic is my broken cable with socket connector, bottom is replacement with incompatible plug style connector. Mystery? Can any one advise please?

Update (10/16/24)

Many thanks again Old turkey. Success! I have managed to repair my iPod but only by purchasing a dead 60Gb model on eBay and cannibalising it!

I exchanged the ribbon cable from the dead iPod for my broken one. Behold the replacement was the right connector but this ribbon cable assembly was part number 632-0346-A.

I am a retired electronics engineer and know something about config control. Cannot understand how 2 ribbon cable assemblies can differ in part number yet be the same form and fit?

By the way my logic board is part 820-1642-A.

For info, pic to follow showing the connector type I have and logic board mating pins.

Thanks for all the help!

@bob77208 what exact model is your iPod? It has a color display or is it monochrome? What number is your logic board? There are actually a few different versions that do utilize different connectors. Have you always owned this iPod or did you acquire it?

@oldturkey03 Hi Old turkey03. Thankyou for taking an interest in my iPod repair and connector problem.

My iPod is a colour 4th Gen, Model A1099 (purchased in USA). Don't know what the logic board part number is, I would have to dismantle further but can do.

The mating connector on the logic board (J1) is clearly 2 rows of forked pins that mate to the black rectangular 'socket' that has detached from the ribbon cable. None of the replacements I can find on line are the same configuration? I have a better photo but cannot seem to upload it!

@bob77208 if you can post a picture that shows the profile of the connector (from the side) and pone of the connector on the circuit board. I know that there are multiple different cables for this due to a variety of circuit boards. Some are interchangeable and some are not. Now, if the 632-0322 fit before it should fit again unless something got modified i.e. the flex cable :-)

To upload your picture, you either have to post it as an answer or edit your question and insert the image then.

@bob77208 EXCELLENT! Glad you got it resolved. Just an FYI for those that are looking at your Answer for their repair:

632-0346-A => A1099 => iPod Photo (Color) 4th generation 20gb, 30gb, 40gb and 60gb

632-0322-A => A1059 => iPod 4th Gen 20GB and 40GB

632-0286-A => A1099 => iPod Photo (Color) 4th generation 20gb, 30gb.

632-0260-A => A1059 => Part fits iPod 4th Gen 60GB

and for the logic board number 820-1642-A it works 40 or 60 GB 4th Generation iPod Photo (Color)

It looks like part of the connector piece is missing in the replacement. Here is an image of the cable with the full connector attached

As you can see there is a block piece in the middle. You’ll need to contact the seller or try a different seller.
