QN75Q60RAF powers on, has sound, but no picture

I have a QN75Q60RAF tv I was given because it was power cycling. It would come on for about 5 seconds, no picture or sound, then shut off.

I opened it up and placed a piece of tape on one of the lcd (I believe) ribbon cable and this got it to stay on. The backlight is on for about 2 thirds of the screen.

Now I can hear the remote click through the menus but there is still no picture. Could it be a board issue even though I can hear the tv is functioning? What could I check on the board to see if it’s the board or the LCD screen itself?

To start, most failures will produce a flashing power LED to indicate where the problem might be. If you have that, count the sequence and search for that online.

If 2/3 of backlight works, it is possible the failed side is affecting power for other things.

The first thing I would do is disconnect power to the backlights. Then do the flashlight test. If there is video, then the backlight needs replacement.

If there is no video, then disconnect power, remove the PSU and discharge caps where indicated. Then test as many devices on the PSU as you can. Start with diodes as they are the easiest.

It is hard to tell from the pic, but the 2 capacitors together in the top left may be expanding. The tops should be flat as the three together are.

So I managed to get an image on the screen, but with horizontal lines. It seems to be that the ribbon connector (BN96-39903C) that goes from the main board to the lcd screen(I presume) is loose, maybe it’s the cable itself or the connector it slips into has some kind of lose solder joint. Image will go in and out, and the lines will get worse or better as I wiggle it. Nonetheless, I’m going to do more digging throughout the week and examine the connector closer. But progress is progress.
