Battery Connector Broke Off Logic Board

Good morning,

The battery connector on my wife's Early 2015 MacBook Air has broken off the logic board. The MacBook has slowed down considerably in the last few years. Is it worth it to try to get this repaired? I, myself, have no soldering experience so I do not trust myself to do this on my own.

How much would the repair cost generally and how long would it take? My wife needs her computer daily for work.

It looks like a clean break and the pins are not damaged by the look of things, so I think it would be a relatively quick and easy job for a fixer to manage with a bit of flux and a hot air gun. As for the price that depends on where you are located, I think not a back breaker. I would look to get it fixed, Back up the data, do a fresh install with the latest OS Monterey and you'll be good for a long time to come.

DO NOT try to connect it with the battery still attached to the connector though otherwise your looking at a possibly shorted board somewhere which of course takes time to diagnose where that short would be and drastically up the price. So remove the connector from the battery to be safe until you get it done!

Thank you. I live in Toronto if that helps.

She has been complaining that the screen sometimes randomly goes black and then turns back on again (usually) after a few seconds. So it's possible that she already has a short circuit on the logic board. I don't know how long this piece has been disconnected.

Sorry😫 the connector will need to be replaced! The logic board pads still has the broken connectors pins! These can be removed with a soldering iron or a hot air rework station.

Sounds like the battery was in need of replacement and given the systems age it’s long since in need as battery’s don’t have that long a life just by time besides cycle count.

To hep put this into perspective I too need a new battery for my 2012 MacBook which if I remember will be the sixth battery it has had!
