Switch Lite won't turn on after battery swap

Replaced the battery in my Switch Lite and now it won't turn on. I tried swapping the battery back to the old one in case I bought a faulty replacement, but it still won't turn on. There's no signs of life when plugging it in with either battery connected. I'd checked all the ribbon cables to be sure they're connected fully and nothing looks obviously broken. Is there any way to troubleshoot what could have gone wrong?

Hi Rachel!

What was the issue before you replaced the battery?

Could be a lot of things causing this. Where did you got the replacement battery from? It's possible that the new battery accidentally damaged the motherboard.

Could be the following IC's which are failing:

  • Maxim Integrated MAX77620HEWJ power management IC
  • Rohm BM92T10MWV-Z USB-C power delivery controller
  • Texas Instruments BQ24193 battery charge management
  • Maxim Integrated MAX17050 battery fuel gauge

Please check those IC's or let them be checked.

Hopefully you will get the Switch working again.

Before I replaced the battery the issue was that the battery wasn't holding much of a charge anymore. I've figured out some more info, though -- it does turn on and I can see the screen if I hold a flashlight up to it. The buttons and touch screen respond, but there's no backlight. Trying to figure out now what I need to do to troubleshoot that

Hi Rachel! Ah good to know that the battery is fine! And that it's probably not motherboard related! The downside is that the screen is having issues now.

There are 2 cables attached to the LCD. The bigger ribbon cable is for the data (this cable is fine) and the small ribbon cable is for the backlight. Please check the smaller ribbon cable attached to the screen! In the worst case, you may need to replace the screen. But hopefully the cable isn't correctly connected.

Here you can see the cables: Desmontaje de Nintendo Switch Lite (Step 10 photo).

And here you can see where it is connected > Reemplazo de LCD del Nintendo Switch Lite (Step 41).

Good luck, hopefully you will get it fixed asap :)!

Unfortunately, disconnecting and reseating the screen connector on the daughterboard didn't fix things. Is there a straight forward way to figure out if I damaged the screen or the connector on the daughterboard? I have a multimeter if that would be useful

Ahw too bad. No, not really :(... The best thing to do is to get a replacement screen and test it. If the same issue is happening there, then you can return the screen and ask for a refund. It's the only way to test... sry!
