Bluray drive not taking or ejecting discs all of a sudden

hello, I had a disc in my PS3 slim and the Blu-ray drive stopped working all of a sudden that I had to manually eject it, after that I could not insert or eject discs anymore. the eject button makes the beep sound but no movement whatsoever from the drive! as if the power is not reaching it. I've tested the drive 4pin power cable and the data ribbon cable, both working. I've changed the whole drive and still the same issue.

any ideas what could be the case? I've checked almost everything, with no luck.

You already replaced the drive, but the issue is still there? Is the PS3 Slim able to update? If it fails with an update, then it cannot detect the drive.

It does sound like there is an power issue there. Without the ribbon cable, the drive should still take in discs. Without the power cable, the drive won't do anything. When there is no movement at all, it's basically the sensor OR the drive is not receiving any power. In this case it's probably the power cable or either the port on the motherboard which is not supplying the disc drive with (enough) power. Please test the port as well to see if it's powering the drive.

the PS3 is working fine other than that, and it's able to update. that's why I guess it's a power issue since there is no movement at all. I will test the port on the motherboard.

I've done some tests around the motherboard, and I could only find that these fuses are not working! I read somewhere that they are related to the blu-ray drive not receiving power!

Hi Ziad! Thanks for sharing this information with us!! Good to know that those fuses are responsible for the drive.

Sort of the same issue as the Wii U had with the 160-1400 drive error that was also caused by the fuses on the motherboard.

I recommend to replace the fuses to get the drive working again (you possibly can bridge them to get them working, but I recommend to get new fuses and solder them in).
