MBP randomly restarts with power adapter and turns off without power

I have mid-2015 MBP 15". I replaced the battery and speakers about 15 months ago. I got batteries from iFixit.

For the last few weeks now, the MBP doesn't work without power connected. The battery is 100% charged. I ran Apple's troubleshooting (Press D button when booting) and there were no errors. I have reset SMB. I have started in safe mode and I have removed all login items. I am not able to fix two issues:
1. The MBP doesn't run on battery. When I unplug the power, the laptop dies immediately and doesn't start without power connected again
2. With power connected, the laptop quite randomly restarts. The fan used to spin at full speed before turning off initially, but now it not the case now. It just turns off seemingly completely random. I could not pin it down to any particular software running.

The laptop was working fine for the last ~1 year. Please can you advice how I should troubleshoot these issues?

Let’s get a better view of things, install this gem of an App CoconutBattery it will allow you to see what’s happening and if you post a snapshot of the main App window here we too can review it to figure out what happening.

@rajp87414 - The batteries manufactured date tells us it was made in 2015! Double check your paperwork if you did buy it 15 months ago I would contact the iFixit store for a replacement.

The battery charge does look good, but I do wonder if the set values are correct (which we can’t see). It’s is where resetting the SMC becomes our focus.

Carefully disconnect the battery and with nothing connected, press and hold the power button to fully drain the logic board of any residual power (a good 15secs). Now with the battery still disconnected, plug the MagSafe charger letting the system to spontaneously boot up, let it fully boot and do a clean shutdown. Now plug the battery back in. See if that helps, let us know how it goes!

I reset SMC. I also disconnected the battery, booted the laptop, shutdown and connected the battery again. It did not fix it.

I received new batteries from iFixit yesterday. I swapped them out last night and charged it overnight. The laptop is working fine now. Both issues are fixed. It was indeed the battery even though the laptop was reporting that the battery is healthy. Thanks Dan!

@rajp87414 - What does CoconutBattery report for the date? If you’re set don’t forget to score the answer and accept it - Thanks! 🙏
