The Chevrolet Silverado, and its mechanically identical cousin, the GMC Sierra, is a series of full-size and heavy-duty pickup trucks manufactured by General Motors and introduced in 1999 as the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K line. The Silverado name was taken from a trim level previously used on the C/K pickup truck from 1975 through 1998.

Rear Hazards not working

1988 C1500 Silverado. Having an issue where the rear tail lights were randomly turning on without anyone in the vehicle but I was not sure if it was the brake lights or running lights. So I switched the brake switch but the issue did not go away and the fuse started blowing when the hazard was turned on the brake applied. Discovered an underrated 5A fuse in a 15A socket and after replacing the fuse the brake lights work but the rear hazard lights don't (front haz work). The turn signal switch brake lights when brake applied, turn signals work, running lights work and front hazards work but rear hazards don't.

Basically, everything works except for the rear hazards.

I presume you have tired replacing the bulbs. If not I'd do that.

Investigate the bimetalic strip(s) that ticks the hazard lights for corrosion or other damages.

Check the wiring harness that runs under the bed for damage.

Ensure your battery ground makes a soild connection.

I'd also clean and sand the blub sockets to ensure a soild connection.

I'd give the fuse box pcb a look I've seen many terribly water damaged and corroded chevy and gm fuse box pcbs.

I'd also test the voltage across of the light socket between your body and the hot wire

And compare it the voltage potential across the two pins of the light socket.

A bad grounding to the frame, fuse or blub is typically the cause for lighting related issues.
