Preguntas 84 Ver todo

TI-84 Plus CE repeatedly turning on and off when charging.

My TI-84 Plus CE will repeatedly turn on and off repeatedly in about 1 second intervals while connected to the charging cable, regardless of the power source its connected to (wall outlet, laptop, power brick etc.). It will not turn on at all if not plugged in. I've tried pressing the reset button to no avail. The cable is essentially brand new. This also happened while it should have been at full charge, though it had been about 2 months since it was last fully charged, but it wasn't used in that time until I tried to turn it on recently. I tried taking the battery out and putting back in, and that didn't make a difference either.

This sounds like the battery needs to be replaced. Based on what you've said, I am going to hazard that it wasn't used for a while and then it was turned on recently? Correct me if I'm misunderstanding. But that's the perfect storm for battery failure. Even when the device is off, power is being delivered to the board, so the battery drains slowly until it is totally depleted. If left for some time in this state, the battery may not be able to charge up again.

If you disconnect the battery and try to turn it on with just the charger, does that change anything? It's worth a try to attempt to isolate a potentiality bad battery from the equation. It may not be able to power on at all without the battery, but it won't do any harm to check.

Yes, I hadn't used it for a while. Nothing happened when I tried to turn it on without the battery while it was plugged in, but it definitely sounds like the battery's the problem, so I'll give a new one a shot. Thank you!

@willowchartrand Let us know how you make out! New battery definitely beats buying a whole new one. I know how pricey these graphing calculators can be.

I'd like to add that TI's customer support has been pretty good about sending users a new battery for free if the calculator is new. https://education.ti.com/en/customer-sup...

I'm sorry I didn't see this before you ordered a new battery. This has become a common problem with newer TI-84 Plus CE calculators where they can't charge a flat battery. Since you state the calculator is new, TI Cares has been pretty good about sending a new battery for free. https://education.ti.com/en/customer-sup...

If you plug the old battery into a friend's older TI-84 Plus CE and charge it overnight, the battery will likely come back to life.
