Is the iFixit Adhesive Strips for the Monitor the Best?

I ordered the iFixit SSD kit and am in the final stage of adding the monitor back on. (I plugged things in and so far so good.)

The adhesive strips seem a bit too thin and from reading all the horror stories from the monitor suddenly coming off even after successfully putting it on, I am worried that after all this work, the adhesive strips would lead to a cracked monitor. Any other suggestions besides silicon? I am open to all suggestions and advice.

Thank you!

Hello, this is Lore.

I’m glad to hear that you successfully installed the SSD kit on your iMac. I understand your concern about the adhesive strips for the monitor. The iFixit adhesive strips are specifically designed to fit the 27" iMacs from Late 2012 to 2019 and the iMac Pro. They are labeled to indicate their correct location and they require proper surface preparation before installation. You can find more details and instructions on how to apply them in this Tiras adhesivas del iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display 2019.

Some users have reported using other alternatives such as double-sided tape or glue, but they may not be as reliable or easy to remove as the iFixit adhesive strips. Therefore, I would recommend following the iFixit guides and using the adhesive strips that came with the kit. I hope this helps and good luck with your repair.

To add to @lore_io answer I find the heat of having a warm surface makes a big difference as a cold shell and glass won’t allow the adhesion to set properly. Use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm the case and display edge (not the screen area as you will damage it if you over do it). Next I like using a small J roller to help press the display firmly into the case. Again, keep to the edge but don’t roll over the edge as you can chip the displays cover glass, firmly but not too hard.

@danj Thanks @lore_io and @Dan! I really appreciate the responses and the extra tip about adding warmth. Appreciate both responses. Happy New Year!
