Is the display cable replaceable by itself?

I believe my display cable to be defective, as the screen works perfectly until extended beyond 90 degrees. Ifixit sells the cable, item # IF188-134-2, but I can't tell how it's connected to the display itself. The replacement displays come as the entire assembly, with the cable preinstalled.

Is the cable replaceable on its own or does the entire display need to be replaced?

You're looking at the wrong cable. The cable involved in screen glitches when you move the lid is integral to the screen, what you're looking at is in between the motherboard and the screen controller, not between the controller and the screen which is the broken one.

It's technically replaceable. Technically. However, you'd have to be a professional-level micro-solderer, and even then it would still be extremely risky. The only practical choices are to replace the entire screen, pay a repair shop to replace the cable (which would also be extremely risky), or buy a new laptop. And yes, it's on purpose.

The cable that Ifixit says is compatible has ZIF connectors on both ends, there doesn't appear to be any soldering necessary. Is this cable not the correct one?

@rcheid oh, I might have been mistaken, sorry. If there are ZIF connectors on both ends, then it seems to me that it's replaceable. Sorry for the confusion.

@rcheid No that's the wrong cable. What you are asking can't be replaced DIY.
