How do I fix "Could not detect an SD Card."

Hello. I have a Nintendo 2ds that I got in 2019. It came with a "Toshiba 4gb SDHC Memory card". It had New Super Mario Bros 2. It worked fine until I download a Chromebook recovery utility file on it. After the file was done downloading I took it out of my Chromebook and put it in my 2ds. Well it said "Could not detect an SD Card. The software on the SD Card could not be displayed." I put it back in my Chromebook and went into the files app and Formatted the 2 SD card folders. I do not remember what they were originally named. I do know that I reset the nintendo 2ds to factory settings and now I have none of my pictures or videos which I loved. I cannot afford a new SD Card. I only have a chromebook. I do not have anything else to help here. Plz Help ASAP!! Thanks in advance!

Hey, there Mike,

When you used the Recovery Utility tool to create a recovery disk (Your SD Card), you will need to Reformat it to reuse it with your 2DS. This is because the recovery tool reformats the storage medium (In this case your SD card) to work with your Chromebook. I've pasted the instructions for reformatting your SD card using your Chromebook so that it will work once more with your 2DS. I've also attached the support page for your viewing needs.

  1. Insert the SD card into your Chromebook.
  2. Open the Files app.
  3. Click on the SD card in the left-hand pane.
  4. Click on the three dots in the top right corner of the screen.
  5. Select "Format as internal storage."
  6. Click on "Erase & Format."
  7. The SD card will be formatted and will now be available as internal storage on your Chromebook.

Hopefully, this is helpful for your issue!

Actually that isn't what the problem is. My Chromebook works perfect. It's my sd card that won't work on the 3ds. But thanks anyway.

@mikew2025 You would need to use your Chromebook to reformat the SD card so that you can use the card with your 2DS. Apologies for any confusion.

It's fine apologies accepted. What do I name both of the folders and what type of file are they?

@mikew2025 The SD card can be names whatever you need it to be, but you will need to format the SD card in the FAT32 format.
