Out of ideas for fixing fingerprint after screen replacement

Hey all,

Simialar questions have been asked but no answers provided for my specific issue on them.

I got screen bleed after dropping my phone on holiday, got the screen replaced at a tech shop and now have multiple issues.

  1. The fingerprint won't work: I don't get any error messages or mentions of fingerprint whatsoever, the option is totally gone from the security settings. I've tried to recalibrate the fingerprint sensor multiple times and had no issues with that process - it just doesn't do anything to bring it back. I've rebooted multiple times, factory reset the device and still no luck. It's like fingerprint never existed.
  2. Phone is heating up more than usual when it isn't running much in the background, even now it's factory reset.
  3. Battery drain is huge from whatever is going on in the background, even when idle and no apps running.
  4. Screen is super laggy when typing and also if I try to watch a video on YouTube I notice it lags a lot.

I've tried all the suggestions on here from similar posts and issues, but having no luck at all. The store have told me they put on an official Google screen, but I'm not sure if it's another issue causing this or if I just don't believe them haha. Any help or advice is much appreciated. Would this be caused by the fingerprint sensor being damaged in the screen change? They said they transferred the old sensor to the new screen. Or what would potentially cause all of these issues?

Thanks in advance 🤞🏾🙏🏾

Unfortunately all I can do is commiserate with you. My niece dropped her 6 Pro and cracked the screen so I ordered a replacement and installed it. After three hours of messing with the fingerprint sensor, I was in the same position as you; it's like it's not even there. No error message, calibration goes fine, but it just doesn't do anything.

I ordered a replacement sensor and have it sitting in my parts drawer waiting for an opportunity to swap out the original for the replacement and see if that does anything, but my niece isn't in any hurry so I don't know when that replacement will happen.

Update (11/07/23)

There is one big difference though; she doesn't have any issues with overheating or battery life or anything like that.

Also, note that the screen I installed was an aftermarket screen, not a genuine Google part. In the time I've been hanging around on iFixit, I've observed that the genuine Google replacement screens seem to have a higher than normal incidence of problems. I am kind of chalking it up to quality control issues with Google's replacement parts department, so I have to wonder if it might be worthwhile to see if the repair shop will swap the screen out again to see if it will resolve some or all of the incidental issues you're seeing.
