Since the original question this was posted to was about home button/touch id, I assume when you say the lower of the two, you mean the one whose cable is closer to the outside edge of the phone?

Your best bet here will be to add some pictures to your question so we can see the extent of the damage.

Hi Herbert,

As my esteemed colleague Alisha has already elucidated, a picture is worth a thousand words here. It really depends on what kind of damage we're talking about as to whether it's going to be worth trying to fix. From your description I'm guessing you're talking about the cable shown in this picture.

I can't be sure if that's the digitizer or the LCD cable, but generally those are not considered repairable. The FPC connector on the end of the cable could be replaced, possibly at a somewhat reasonable cost, but any further repairs on those flex cables just aren't going to be worth considering, especially when you take into account that you can buy a full replacement screen for that phone for $15-20 or less.

Thanks. It's indeed the lower cable in the picture. If I replaced the screen, would touch ID work with the replacement screen? I read somewhere touch ID wouldn't work because it would need to be initialized/coded in some shape or form.

@herbertgroeh119 If you follow the screen replacement guide carefully, part of the procedure is to transfer the home button from the old screen to the new one. Touch ID is completely housed in the home button so moving it over without damaging it means it will work just fine on the new screen.

If you bought a screen that came with the home button, that button would not work for Touch ID, but by keeping the existing button you get to keep Touch ID.

Thanks you, this is incredibly helpful. Amazing how this works here :-)
