Volume button lost tactile feedback after UV glue went into it

I took my phone to a decent mobile shop and got them to install the UV screen protector. To my horror the UV glue has gone into one of the side volume buttons. The volume up button has the tactile feedback, but the volume decreasing/lowering button doesn't. Both buttons work, but the bottoms one has lost the click, so its bit difficult to tell if its working.

I dont want them to touch my phone again now. Also not sure if I take it the Samsung service center, my warranty gets void. So thinking of using a q tip soaked in 70-100% isopropyl alcohol to fix it.

If the alcohol seeps into the button, would it damage the phone/internal rubber or normal phone glue (not just the UV glue)?

(Yes the whole UV glue thing was a bad idea, should have done my reasearch..)

Generally isopropyl alcohol isn't damaging to rubbers or electronics but could affect glues inside the phone. You might consider removing the little side button circuit board and try to clean it by itself. If worse comes to worse it wouldn't be expensive to replace. iFixit is short on guides for your phone, but there's a Spanish site called Nadie Me Llama Gallina that has just what you need to open up the phone and remove the side buttons.

Manuals / Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra / Side buttons

Doesn't look like too difficult an operation; if it was me I'd go ahead and order a replacement board anyway but you will want to have some precut adhesive to glue the rear panel back on when you're done.

Good luck; let us know how it goes!

Thank you for replying!!

How about if I remove and clean the side button alone like shown in the video? Would that reduce the ip68 rating or make some permanent damage?

just don't apply any liquid when the phone is powered on.

@jamescamer57474 Yikes, that video is brutal! I don't know, most buttons have some sort of retention mechanism to hold them into the phone. Unfortunately I can't find any information on how to actually replace the side button, although the buttons themselves are available for sale online.

I'd be tempted to pull the control board first then look inside for what it is that's supposed to keep the buttons from falling out. Prying them out with a box knife seems kind of barbaric. I mean, that may well be the right way to do it, but it wouldn't be my first attempt.

As nearly as I can tell, the buttons seem to have a rubber seal, so I would think removing and replacing them shouldn't affect the waterproof rating. Unfortunately, opening the back of the phone does. You can get it resealed fairly well, but once it's open the rating is officially gone.
