Keyboard not working after replacement

Hi, I have a 2020 i7, 32gb 1tb I’d like to get working again. The previous topcase had some kind of damage (likely from a sugary drink, I have no idea, the keyboard was working but keys were sticky & the space bar was borderline unclickable) but the logic board is perfectly fine. I replaced the logic board of a macbook with a fried logicboard due to water damage & now everything is working BUT the keyboard, even the backlight of the keyboard works. There is just a missing logic board replacement tutorial on here and I honestly am not entirely sure which plug is for the keyboard & wether I’ve just not seated it correctly or wether this keyboard is somehow just toast (hell I’m even surprised the battery still works on the top case of the water damaged device, but it does with amazing capacity). I am really trying to do it on a tight budget, my goal is ultimately to have this macbook for free, working, after selling the redundant display and working parts.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Often the previous models can offer some help! Take a look at this guide Reemplazo de tarjeta lógica de MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2019

Wow now I feel stupid lol, completely overlooked that even though I used that exact guide! Anyways, is it possible for the keyboard to have been shorted and thus fried through that connector? I’m not entirely sure what goes on on the other end, but there was a tiny bit of residue from liquid damage on the connector of the old logic board (it’d shock me if that is dead as the trackpad had heaps more but somehow survived). According to the person I got it from, the laptop still worked fine but wouldn’t charge anymore, despite the liquid damage.

@invincibleyt - the keyboard is a passive device so it won't short out the logic board but inserting the ribbon cable incorrectly can cause neighboring pins to short and that can lead to issues.

Yes, I understand it wouldn’t fry the logic board, but I used the keyboard from a dead macbook pro to fix one with a sticky keyboard. Now everything BUT the keyboard works. I was wondering if perhaps the water damage that killed the logic board in the original setup could’ve somehow killed the keyboard? The original keyboard of the mac I want to fix still worked, just had problematic keys, this one now doesn’t have problematic keys & the backlight works but no input is ever registered. Do I ultimately need to get a new keyboard if this is fried or am I somehow just doing something wrong?

@invincibleyt - Often the a liquid spill enters into the keyboard so it’s no surprise it was damaged as well.

Time to replace the keyboard which is a pain! More so in this series!

Would you suggest that replacing the keyboard is worth it for someone coming from the smartphone area? If this is riveted, I probably won’t be able to do the safe for the new keyboard. Just replacing the keyboard would be 99.- which is a much better price than the Topcase in its entirety for 239 without battery & trackpad.

Fyi, I think the keyboard of the working mac logicboard probably had a slight spill of something sticky, the other one that is entirely dead is due to rain & was closed and in a bag when it died.
